Once all your permanent teeth have erupted, you are responsible for keeping them in place for as long as possible. Unfortunately, as much as we’d like to hold on to our teeth, there are certain cases wherein a tooth extraction in Marco Island may be needed. Some of the reasons why your tooth may need to be extracted include
After the procedure, you will be sent home to recover. For a speedy and successful recovery, you will be given certain instructions.

After a tooth extraction you should take painkillers as prescribed by your dentist. Discomfort is normal post-extraction, but this should subside after taking pain medications. You will also be asked to bite gently on a clean piece of gauze over the extraction site. This is done to minimize the bleeding and to allow a blood clot to form in the socket.Furthermore, swelling can be expected. However, you can reduce swelling by placing an ice bag over the affected site every ten minutes. Don’t rinse or spit for twenty-four hours after the extraction as this may dislodge the clot. Rest is key to a speedy recovery.
Again, it’s normal to experience pain and discomfort after having your tooth extracted. This is usually felt when the effect of the anesthesia dwindles. Besides pain, slight bleeding and swelling are expected. However, if the bleeding gets worse and the pain persists and becomes more severe after four to five hours post-extraction, you should let your dentist know. If you are vomiting, nauseous, experiencing fever and chills then all the more reason to call your dentist.
